An Evening at El Nido

Just over a week ago, I was lucky enough to have been invited along to the launch of El Nido Latin Kitchen – the new pop-up at No28 in Newcastle.

The quirky bar, which resides just above the Grainger Market, have teamed up with Kaltur, a Spanish restaurant and supplier, to create the pop-up kitchen and I was very excited to tuck into some plates from the menu!

We were greeted with a glass of complimentary fizz, then made ourselves comfortable in a cosy area of the bar with the rest of the North East bloggers and social media influencers who had been invited along to enjoy the evening.

I always love the atmosphere in No28. It’s a beautiful bar and I love the decor, especially the flowers and vines climbing up the walls and hanging from the ceiling! It’s a place you can spend hours putting the world to rights, or you can let your competitive sides out at one of their quiz nights! I don’t mean to brag, but I did actually come joint first in their Gossip Girl quiz last year…

But anyway, onto the food!

I’ll let you in on a little secret…Spanish food is my favourite, and I’m especially a sucker for a Charcuterie Board, so when that was the first plate brought to the table my eyes lit up! A mix of Iberico meats, matured manchego cheese, olives, tomato and sliced ciabatta were presented on the board, and it tasted divine. We were all jumping straight in to make sure we could try a little bit of everything!

I can see the Kaltur Sharing Boards being a favourite from the menu for a lot of people. They’re incredibly reasonable in price, starting at £11, and they’re also the perfect accompaniment to a few drinks!

Throughout the rest of the evening we were brought a range of tapas, including delicious patatas bravas, calamari, tempura aubergine and croquets – which were a real highlight for me. We also tried some of the slow cooked ox-tail tacos which were bloody lovely.

Great food, great company and plenty of fizz certainly made the night very enjoyable. Each plate of food was packed with flavour, but it was only a little taste of what you can expect from the menu, so I’ll definitely be heading back to No28 for more El Nido goodness!
