The Hustle – Newcastle (AD)

I think you’ll be seeing plenty of food posts on the blog this year, so let’s start it off with a visit to one of Newcastle’s newest spots – The Hustle!

Taking up residence in the old Tiger Tiger/Eden site at the heart of the city centre, the building has certainly had quite the glow up since I was last there. It has been transformed into a stunning bar, grill and disco lounge with an extensive drinks menu and an excellent New York style tapas menu.

The Hustle is open 12pm til late every day, making it the perfect stop for a casual lunch date while you’re out shopping or for a big night out with all the gang. They’re even doing cocktail masterclasses which I’m DESPERATE to do – might be an idea for my hen do!!

Adam and I were invited along on Saturday afternoon to try some food and it certainly didn’t disappoint.

With such an extensive menu, it was so hard deciding on what to order! From pizzas to tacos, and sliders to rice bowls – there’s definitely something for everyone. There are so many deals and sharing platters too including a choice of 3 small plates for £12, 3 mini buns for £10, share and tear flatbreads and wing platters!

After much deliberation we decided on the Jerk Chicken pizza, Dirty Fries and 3 buns; Dirty Dogs, Katsu Bao Bun and Sloppy Joe.

The Jerk Chicken pizza was a firm favourite for me. They have an in-house pizza oven which is clearly working wonders in creating the perfect thin and crispy base- just look at it! I often find jerk chicken can sometimes be too hot that I can’t enjoy it – this packed a punch but not so much that it blew your head off. It was delicious!

It was great to be able to taste a few different sliders too – the Katsu Bao Bun was a personal favourite. Crispy chicken, flavoursome sauce and a deliciously fluffy bun. I could have definitely eaten 3 of those alone.

The Dirty Fries also went down an absolute treat! Fries topped with spring onion, tomato, sour cream, chorizo and a cheese sauce. They’re so full of flavour and incredibly moreish, I think I definitely ate more than my half. I just couldn’t help myself… I swear the way the chips are cut make them even more delicious if that’s possible??

The food is of excellent quality, portion sizes are very generous and plates are presented beautifully. There’s a real sense of luxury at The Hustle, but still with a proper chilled out vibe. I can see it becoming a favourite spot of mine!

For all my Vegan pals as well, they also have a separate Vegan menu with mini buns, pizzas, sharing plates and more. I wasn’t lying when I said there’s something for everyone!

I definitely need another visit to work my way through the cocktail menu. Sadly I had the car on Saturday so was on the mocktails but honestly, I didn’t mind at all. Their Alcohol Free Passion Fruit Martini was simply divine. I’m drooling just thinking about it…

If you’re excited to head along, this week might be a good week to do so as from Monday 17th to Sunday 23rd January 2022, Newcastle Restaurant Week returns and The Hustle are taking part! For just £15, you can get x3 small plates and a pizza. Perfect right?

Visit The Hustle for all details and get yourself booked now!

Huge thank you to The Hustle for having us along, and to the staff for being so lovely and friendly. We can’t wait to return!
