If you’ve followed my blog or Instagram for a while, you’ll probably know that I knew absolutely NOTHING about wrestling up until a few years ago when I met Adam. He was into wrestling so obviously, trying to be a good girlfriend, I showed an interest. Little did I know it would end up being something I love!
I’ve been to my fair share of shows over the past few years now, both WWE and independent promotions, so when Main Event Wrestling (MEW) in Newcastle invited me along to their latest show I jumped at the chance.
Taking up residency at Innisfree Sports & Social Club in Longbenton, MEW are a much loved wrestling company who have been running for a number of years and it’s safe to say they’re a definite fan favourite here in the North East. This was my second time at one of their shows, my first being pre-pandemic. I thoroughly enjoyed the first one I went to so was very excited to be heading back as I had an idea of what to expect and let me tell you, it didn’t disappoint.
Their latest show, Purely Belta, took place on 20th May, and the card was packed with talent from near and far. I was excited as one of my favourite wrestlers was set to appear (yes, we all know I’m talking about Adam Maxted) and a few who I’d been looking forward to seeing for a while.
It was great to see the room packed with fans for the show as well! Whether you’re looking for a family night out or a night with your mates, MEW is the one for you as there really is something for everyone to enjoy. Location wise, it’s also in an ideal little spot. If you’re driving there’s a free car park which you can use, or it’s right next to the metro which is definitely handy if you’re fancying a bev or two!
The show was full of shenanigans, suplexes and title matches, there was never a dull moment. I think my favourite match of the evening though had to be Liam and Leon Slater vs Cosplay Kings! It was especially brilliant as they came out as Edge and Christian and The Dudley Boyz. The room was buzzing and the match was so energetic. I’d heard great things about Liam Slater from friends and he absolutely lived up to the hype! Cosplay Kings are also amazing and worthy tag team champs!
It was also great to finally see Matthew Brooks Operamania. Adam saw him at an MEW show pre-covid and honestly wouldn’t stop talking about it him for ages…and now I know why!
All in all I had a fantastic night and it definitely won’t be my last time at an MEW show.
If you like what you’ve read and fancy getting on down to their next show, Get More Attitude, it’s taking place on 8th July! Tickets are priced at £10 for adults and £8 for kids and they’re on sale now.
Huge thanks again to the team for inviting me down and for a great night!
**Full disclosure: tickets were kindly gifted by MEW in exchange for this review (AD)
