SIX THE MUSICAL: REVIEW, STOCKTON GLOBE

Ok so we all know how it goes…
Divorced. Beheaded. Died.
Divorced. Beheaded. Survived.

Except last night (and until the 2nd of January!) it’s divorced, beheaded, LIVE at Stockton Globe as SIX makes its royal return to Teesside following a sold out run last year.

If you want female empowerment, dazzling costumes and banging tunes then you’ve definitely come to the right musical!

From Tudor Queens to Pop Princesses, SIX sees the (you guessed it) six wives of Henry VIII take to the mic and tell the story of each of their lives in a unique and empowering way. Each Queen sings a song to share their heartbreak and history in a competition to see who had it worst. It’s a story about women, told by exclusively women, but not just ‘for’ women.

A fun fact that I didn’t know until reading the programme is that SIX came about when writers Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss were asked to pen an original musical for a spot at Edinburgh Fringe in 2017. The show was picked up by producers and well, the rest is ‘her-story’!

I’ve had several friends stress to me in the last year or so that I NEEDED to see SIX because I’d absolutely love it, and they were right. It’s so easy to see how this award winning show has taken the musical world by storm. It’s such a fresh, hilarious and uplifting musical. Totally one of a kind!

All Queens were incredible and we were lucky enough to chat to Molly Willows (Catherine of Aragon) and Yna Tresvalles (Anne Boleyn) after the show who were both lovely and enjoyed opening night just as much as we did. It was also brilliant to see Teesside’s own Izzy Formby-Jackson as Catherine Parr in this performance. What a voice!

As far as the tunes go, it’s literally banger after banger! I love that each Queen has a different singing style, it adds so much to the show and there is something for everyone. Stand out songs for me were ‘Haus of Holbein’, ‘Get Down’ and ‘All You Wanna Do’. All about the sass and I love it.

‘Heart of Stone’ also gave me goosebumps and I had a lump in my throat. The vocals, and the lyrics, were truly stunning!

SIX is 80 minutes long and has no interval, it’s like being at a pop concert! The show is at Stockton Globe until Thursday 2nd January 2025 and you can buy tickets here.

I’m so happy to have been part of this Queendom for the night! Huge thank you to the beautiful team at Stockton Globe for inviting me down for this spectacular show.
