Date Night at The Lamp Room: Review

First food review of 2020, and my goodness it’s a good one…

Adam and I had ourselves a lovely little date night last Friday and finally headed along to The Lamp Room in Seaham, having been recommended it a few times by numerous people!

As it was a Friday night I thought it would be best to book a table and I’m glad we did because it was pretty busy! They do say that walk ins are always welcome though. We were taken to our table and handed the two menus to choose from- Surf & Turf and Tapas.

We glanced at the Surf & Turf menu but to be honest, we already knew heading into the restaurant that we wanted to go for Tapas after having a little look at the menu online. Tapas is basically just a glorified/posh picky tea and I can tell you now, I’m here for it!

The dishes are mainly priced between £5-£7 per dish, but The Lamp Room had an offer on – 5 tapas dishes for £24.95. Perfect! Our waitress recommended 6-8 dishes between the two of us. We’d been good all day, knowing that we were going out for tea, and were rather hungry so we decided to go for the 5 dish deal whilst also adding one extra tapas dish and two sides- warm bread with olive oil and chips with dips.

Now, the Tapas dishes! We went for:

Chicken & Duck Liver Pate – with toasted brioche and apple chutney
Arancini – melted mozzarella & parmesan, saffron risotto, crispy breadcrumbs & aioli dip
Korean Pork Ribs – cooked in a sticky Korean bbq sauce

Halloumi Pigs in Blankets – grilled halloumi wrapped in parma ham with spinach
Chicken Bao Buns – spicy chicken with peppers in fluffy bao buns
Craster Smoked Fish Bake – smoked haddock oven baked in parmesan and cream with herbed croutons

Every single dish we ordered was cooked to perfection and tasted delicious. The Craster Smoked Fish Bake was a definite highlight for both Adam and myself – we ordered it not really knowing what to expect and absolutely loved it. We were also told that it is served as a main on the daily menu with an added poached egg. Lush!

Delicious food, pleasant staff and the perfect little date spot – I think it’s safe to say I’ll definitely be visiting The Lamp Room again.
